Mostly Humorous Observations of Most Anything, with a Boomer Slant

About BMF

Bake My Fish is actually Bob Phillips. I grew up in Prince George’s County, Maryland, primarily Capitol Heights and graduated from Central High School in Seat Pleasant in 1968.

Then I went into the Air Force from 1969 – 1973 to avoid the draft and Vietnam (so kill me). I served in Taiwan from July 1969 – February 1973, and after returning to the United States attended Prince George’s Community College for one year, then transferred to the University of Maryland and graduated in 1976, with a degree in Government & Politics, and a concentration in East Asian Studies, Chinese Language and English Composition.

I have been a janitor, shoe salesman, Disc Jockey, Conversational English teacher, pots and pans salesman, Good Humor Man, cab driver, bartender, Gong Show Host, small-time politician (note the lack of capitalization) and Manager of the Baltimore Bands, OHO, who were signed to an independent deal with Sky Records in 1990 and Experience Wheeler, who broke up too many times for a website.  All of this will make sense as you read my posts.

I have two children, Pamela and Sean. Pamela lives in Renton WA, with her daughter Jessica. Sean lives in Bellevue, WA.

My wife, Nancy, is from Philadelphia. Her relatives cause a bit of stress for me because they are Eagles fans. Being a Redskins fan is a tough gig. I worked in Baltimore, and for some reason the people in Baltimore hate the Redskins. Then I have to deal with my ??Philadelphia relatives who hate them, too.

Many people ask why the moniker “Bake My Fish?” I think it’s cute. While a member of AOL years ago when there were chat rooms, it seemed to get the biggest LOL from the other people in the rooms, so I decided to use it as my pen name. There were other names like BeatenSquid, BeefTongue, OnlyOneCannoli, TonyToetag, LOLmyArse, XmasAtKmart, LightsOnNotHome, WeirdGeezer, BagODonuts, etc. But, Bake My Fish and BeatenSquid are my favorites.  Some of them may contribute to this blog.

My home is Eldersburg, MD, where we have lived since 1986.

I just retired in December 28, 2018.  Yay me!

So, there you have it. I am me, and you are reading my stuff.

With Love,

Bake My Fish

  1. Hi Bob…………I really enjoyed Boomer Twilight, it took me to a place I have’nt been for many years… was a nice respite, and I appreciate it. I have always wondered about your moniker, it’s really cute. I am new to cyberspace, but consider myself a work in progress, I am determined to learn as much as possible. The forums on are a real education……from so many Institutes of learning!! I am looking for a creative writing class to keep up. My brother Mike also graduated from Central H.S. , he is now an elevator mechanic and is ready to retire. I pray for our new President and hope we will soon be headed in the right direction for the salvation of our Country, and the future of all of our children and Grandchildren……Have a great and Blessed Day Doris T

  2. Dear Bob,

It seems that you are really old and going to pass away soon. Have you accepted Colonel Sanders
    as your lord and savior?

  3. Hey Bob:

I was rooting around the Internet looking for Blogs that had “…kind of a Baby Boomer Generation theme.” I ran across yours and I was smitten. Great blog, great blog, great blog. I have recently started two blogs of my own called “Notes from the Recession” ( and The Big Boom Theory ( I am new to the world of blogging and have been trying to see what some of the Internet’s best blogs are like. Your’s definitely among the best and you have set the bar pretty high ofr the rest of us. In any event, I enjoy Boomer Twilight very much and promise to point to it from my blog and will visit you again and again.

  5. Well, so Bob it is 🙂 It’s Christina aka thestarceleb. I think this is the best “about” page I have ever had the pleasure of reading. Seriously. It sounds like you have a lovely family. I look forward to roaming around your blog and getting a glimpse into your mind 🙂

  6. Well, thank you there, Christina. I guess my goofing around on Twitter made you chuckle so you checked out my site.

I appreciate the comments about the family. It’s just my wife and I here. My kids (from my first marriage) are doing well, but they don’t live close by. I guess that’s why I get so much time to devote to my Blog.

Please do spend some time checking out my posts. They go all over the place. Most of them are Boomer-oriented, which is probably well beyond your ability to remember, since you seem too young to have experienced any of the things back then, but hopefully you’ll enjoy the stories. Click on the pictures in the sidebar, and they’ll take you to a relevant post.

    I hope you enjoy it.

    Thank you.

  7. Bob,

I grew up in Marlow Heights also, but I am few years younger.. I enjoy reading your blog. My late uncle (Paul McDonald) drove a Yellow Cab in Marlow Heights around the same time. By chance did you know him ?

  8. John:

I only drove part-time and the night shift. I don’t know the name off hand, but could very well have met him at one of the stands while we were waiting for fares.

I drove in the Marlow Heights area until about early 1975. Then I transferred from PG Community College to the University of MD and started driving out of the Hyattsville office, which was very close to the campus.

Thank you for reading my Blog. I’m glad you enjoy it. If you like I’ll add you to my mailing list and keep you updated as I add posts.

I have another Blog at http:/ The link to it is just above the picture of the Marlow Heights road sign to the right. Just click on the picture and it’ll take you to the Blog. It contains the same posts/stories, but there is a lot of media in the sidebar. It takes longer to load, but it’s entertaining.

    Take care,
